[From Our Correspondent.] METHVEN, January 19. Rain fell foir the most part of Thursday night, and early on Friday morning it looked as if the weather would clear, but towards noon a cold southwest wind came up with heavy showers of hail and rain.. The temperature was once 30deg colder in the shade than •on Thursday, aaid there was a slight coating of snow on the hills. . . ASHBURTON, January 19. Although very little rain fell in Ashburton yesterday, the wind was very cold throughout. tlie day, and the climatic conditions were quite wintry. About 6.30 p.m. a very heavy storm came up, which was accompanied by rain, sleet and hail. These storms were frequent until 9.30 p.m., when they passed off.
