THE ENGLISH TEAM

MATCH AT NELSON. v [Per Press Association.] NELSON, January 19. The match was continued at 11 o'clock. The wicket was good, though soft after the rain yesterday. Douglas and Johnston opened the Englishmen s innings. Knapp clean bowled Johnston with the last hall of tho first over beforera run was soored. Harrison went in, but got a nasty knock on the knee from Knapp when at 12, and retired. Sinipson-Hayward succeeded him, ' and was clean bowled by Knapp after scoring three. Williams was the newcomer, and when he had made a single he was caught off Knapp the total being then three for 32. The English captain was clean bowled by Fisk, after scoring a single, and without further addition to tho score Douglas w*as cleverly caught in fhe long field off Knapp. With the score at 42 Curwen was caught at cover, off Knapp, whes-e average at this stage was five wickets for 15 runs. May, who' joined Branston, fell a victim to Martin after scoring three, making the total 60 for eight wickets. Fox succeeded him, and he and Branston made a good stand, taking the score from 60 to 114, and being still together at the luncheon adjournment. The game was resumed shortly after two. The weather was beautiful and the attendance large. Branston and Fox continued their innings. The for-, mer added 8 and wae caught off Kinzett. Harrison resumed his interrupted innings. Fox w*as clean bowled by Kin.-, zett when the total was 130, and Torrens, the last man, and Harrison took the score to 149, when Martin caught and bowled Harrison. The Combined team began their second innings, and at 5 o'clock had lost eleven wicket© for 84. The Combined team in their second innings sweve all out for 121. The match was drawn. .
