9 A PUBLICAN'S LICENSE ENDORSED. Tho two publicans, who supplied drink to the unfortunate motor-car party that subsequently met with an accident on December 5, in whicli one of tho party was killod. appeared before Mr V. G. Day at the Magistrate's Court this morning. The evidence given at the inquest on Wednesday last showed that the drink had been supplied after hours, and tho police immediately took action. Robert Day was charged with, being a publican, lie did sell liquor at the Prebblcton Hotel during time when tho hotel should have been closed. Mr Stringer appeared for tho prosecution, and Mr . Donnelly for the defendant, who pleaded guilty. The facts were that a party of 3-011 ng men had gone to the hotel in a motor-car after hours, and were supplied with drink. Mr Donnelly said that it was unfortunate that these young men afterwards met with a serious aeciacnt. His Worship said that a publican that so supplied drink to young men was unfit to hold a license. Mr Donnelly appealed to the Magistrate in his discretion not to endorse the defendant's license. His Worship said that he thought tlie Magistrate might exercise discretion and be lenient in the caae of a servant being the cause of the breach, hut- when the publican himsplf admits having committed the fault, the license should be endorsed, unless there were serious extenuating circumstances. He would endorse tho 'license and order the defendant to nay the ccsts. j Patrick Costin, licensee of the Junction Hotel, wa6 charged with a similar offence. Mr Hoban appeared for the defendant, and stated that the supplying of the drinks was admitted. The caso was adjourned till to-morrow. mmmmwmm^smmmmmmwmmm*m*m**-
