FIRE AT ASHBURTON.
TWO-STOREY HOUSE BURNED. [Fhom Our Correspondent.! ASHBURTON, December 3. About ten o'clock last night a twostorey house, containing fourteen room®, owned/ and occupied by Mr MoTiarty, Ashburton, -was totally de^ stroyed. A small quantity of furniture was saved. The fire started in the upper storey, where one of Mr Moriarty's eo-ns had gone in searoh of some articles. ■ He had placed the candle near the wall, setting fire to tie paper. The Brigade was quickly on the scene, but owing to a blockage in the water system no water was available. The house was insured for £400 in the Alliance Office, and the furniture for £100 in the North British Office.
