The Chamber of Deputies, by 416 to 163, expressed confidence in M. Briands firmness to ensure the complete enforcement of the law. M. Briand intimated that the Government; would not resume relations with the Pope, even indirectly, but would show a conciliatory attitude. He warned the Right that unless they followed the Pope's advice to keep quiet they would have to deal with a Government backed by all the foi'ces of the law. \
