(Received May 25, 9.30 a.m.) The weather was misty, and the start of the third day's play was delayed fifteen minutes owing to the bad light. The attendance numbered two thousand. The wicket was worn. The Australians finished the balance of their second innings, which lasted 135 minutes- Hiast did not field. Rhodes and Haigh were the bowlers. Darling partnered Kelly, who had remained not out over-night. Kelly, after making 7, was bowled by Haigh with a ball which broke back. Seven wickets for 71. M'Leod had a similar experience. When he had made 10 he had his middle stump removed by one of Haigh' s break-backs-Eight wiokets for 85 (Darling 5). Layer come next, and the century appeared after 110 minutes' puay. Nine runs later Myers went on, and in his first over bowled Darling, who took fifty minutes compiling 22. Nine wickets for 109. Layer and Cotter carried the total to 127, and then Cotter was ,caught by Denton at long-off, Layer remaining not out with 15 to his credit. With 252 runs to make to win, Yorkshire opened their second innings with Jackson and Grimshaw, Howell and Layer bowling. In the second over Jackson's ofE stump was removed by a good ball from Howell.
