THE BONA FIDE TRAVELLER.
MISLED BY A JUDGMENT,
[Feb Press Association.] AUCKLAND, May 25-
Acting on the judgment of Mr Stanford, the Stipendiary Magistrate at New Plymouth, that the Licensing Act recognised the existence of the bona fide traveller, Herbert Hay, landlord bt St Holier' s Bay Hotel, served a party of Auckland excursionists on Sunday, December 25. He was charged to-day, before Dr M'Carthy, Stipendiary Magistrate, and pleaded guilty* to keeping his hotel open and serving beer during prohibited hours. The Crown Prosecutor said that he recognised that Hay had been misled by Mr Stanford's judgment, and did not press for more than a nominal penalty. The Magistrate imposed a fine of one shilling and costs, remarking that the defendant had committed an offence un-
dor the sanction of a magisterial judg-_ ment, and the license would not be endorsed.
