ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
. « . [Per Pbesr Association.] THAME C ' August 29. A young man named J. M'Kendvick met his death in a painfully sudden manner this ; afternoon. He was driving a horse and cart down the wharf at the Thames, and endeavoured to turn. The horse, being un- ■ \Xr?d to tho wharf, hacked over the side, and the enrt and horse were precipitated into Ibe mud, it being low water at the time. The cart turned a somersault, pin ! nine M'Kendrick. and the horse lashed out, . kicking him on the head. When rescued a j moment later he was dead. It is believed '■. that he was etunned by the kicks and suffocated in the mud. The other occupant of the vehicle had a miraculous escape. TIMARU. August 29. As the result of a collision between two traps at Pleasant Point on Saturday night Miss Elder, nge-d .sixty years, -was thrown from her conveyance, aftd subsequently died from the injuries which she received.
