Tuesday-, July 5. The House met at 10.30. FIRST READING. The Savings Banks Profits Act Amendment Bill (Mr Bauine) was introduced, and read a first time. THE DEATH OP MR O'MEARA. 'Me Sedddn referred to the death of Mr O'Meafa, and briefly traced his career from the time he joined the Post and Telegraph Department to the time of his death. His, he said, had been a useful life, and for some years he was an energetic, faithful, and genial member of the House/. The Government owed a great deal to his tact and energy, and the faithful performance of his duties as Government Whip. He had so performed these duties as to command the esteem and respect of both sides of the House. Ho himself felt that he had lost a kindly and good friend, and he felt sure he was voicing the opinions of all in extending to Mr O'Meara's widow and family their deepest sympathy. He moved a resolution expressing the regret of the House at Mr O'Meara's death, its appreciation of hip services, and its sympathy with his widow and family. Mr' Massey, in seconding the motion, said that never had more genuine sorrow been felfe^in the Parliament Buildings than Avhen the news was circulated of Mr O'Meara's sudden death. He possessed qualifications which eminently fitted him for the position of Whip, and he had made many fast friends on the Opposition side of the House, who trusted and respected him. He would be remembered as a straight, going, fair-minded politician. The motion was agreed to, and, as a mark of respect, the House, at 10.55, adjourned till 10.30 a.m. to-morrow.
