COMMERCE PREYING CRUISERS.
RUSSIA'S FORCE IN MANCHURIA. THE RUSSIAN LINES. (Received April 6, 7.44 a.m.) LONDON, April 5. The Volunteer cruisers Smolensk and Orel have been ordered to prepare for work outside the Black Sea. It is supposed they are instructed to intercept merchantmen cawying contraband to Japan. ' The Chinese General at Tenheng estimates that two hundred and twenty thousand Russians are in Manchuria. A sailor aboard the Petropaulovsk", in a letter home, states that the vessel was severely damaged in one of the Port Arthur actions. Russia holds positions extending seventy miles from Antung to the. mouth of the Hunkiang River.
