LONDON, December 22. The "Daily News" says the Australian elections have given a fatal blow to Mr Chamberlain's policy of preference. It is clear that the Australian outlook is not towards Imperialism at all. SIR GEORGE CLARKE'S SUGGESTION. LONDON, December 22. The "St James's Gazette" says the suggestion made by Sir George Clarke, late Governor of Victoria, that one-half per cent tax on foreign goods should be applied for the promotion of British maritime and commercial interests, is good if practicable, but does not go far enough.
