— — ♦ ■ [Per Press Association.] NELSON, June 11. A Provincial Conference of the Farmers' Union was held at Richmond yesterday, Mr T. Hume (TalAika) ! presiding. Resolutions were earned to co-operate in urgingthe Government to push on the road to Hanmer Springs ; to ask for better railway station accommodation on the Nelson line ; to secure the early opening of all Crown lands available in the district, whether conveyed or not ; to urge the Government to amend the Noxious Weeds Act by repealing a landowner's liability to cJenr on a public road adjoining his property Avhen the weeds have not spread on to his land ; supporting Palmerston North in its protest against the further taxation of land, and eeekinjj a reduction of the duties on the necessaries of life; endorsing Auckland's action with reference to the sheep tax reduction to a shilling per hundred; that all Customs duties be levied for revenue only; opposing fresh legislation to employ unionists as against non-unionists ; rfind that in the appointment of stock inspectors preference should be given to qualified veterinary surgeons. Mr Turner was elected president, Mi Chisnall vice-president, Mr Haycock auditor and Mr Chisnall delegate to the Colonial Conference.
