A MALTA STORY.
The King's visit to Malta recalls an old and! what is credited as a true story. Everyone knows the Armoury at Government House ; at each side of it are many suits of the old; knight*' armour standing life-like as if the gallant bodies that bore them were still inside the breast-plate. It was noticed that on the occasion of a big ball the then Governor's daughter took particular oare always to standl near one particular mailed suit between the dances. The climax came when she asked an old and confidential friend) who was dancing with h«r to get her a brandy-a/nd-soda, "here— quick," as no one wasi about. He promptly obeyed', and to ihis amazement saw the lady lift the dead knight's vkor and' hold up the refreshing dipaught to the opening. The secret was out. A young officer whose attentions to the Govexnor's daughter had been the cause of ibis removal to an outlying fort, had smuggled himself into the armoury in order to see hi® lady-love. j
