CONCILIATION BOARD.
LIVERY STABLE WORKERS' DISPUTE. The Conciliation Board has made the following recommendations in connection with" the livery stable workers' dispute: — That sixty-two hours constitute a. short week's work and seventy hours a long week's work, a long week including a Sunday on. That eatsh employer shall have alternate Sundays off. That tjie minimum wage shall be £2 2s per week, to be paid weekly and in the employer's time. That overtime shall be compensated for by-" time off.", A strict account shall be kept and all " under time " shall be considered " time off." That one hour shall be allowed for concert and theatre jobs. That a minimum of two hours shall be allowed for ball jobs terminating by midnight, and a maximum of four hours for those later. That Christinas Day and Good Friday shall be worked as Sundays. That employers shall employ members of the Union in preference to nonmembers, provided there are members of the Union available without undue delay equally qualified with non-members to perform the particular work required. This provision shall nob interfere with existing arrangements between employers and ncnUnionists. That r. disputa committee shall be appointed, consisting of three representatives to be appointed by the : Workers' Union and three by the employers, to dsside'the rate of wages to be paid to juniors, the rate of wages to be paid to incompetents and any question arising as to the interpretation of the award or as to any matter not provided for in it. Every question shall be decided by the majority of the voters, and in the event of. the voting being equal the question shall be submitted to die chairman of the Conciliation Board, whose decision shall be final. If no objection is made, the recommendation shall come into force on July 1, 1903, and remain in force- for three years.
