SUMMARISED.
THE WOMAN AND THE
WAITER.
(Cnssell's Saturday Journal.)
One day at noon, in a crowded West End restaurant, a talkative lady hailed an. overworked waiter, and ordered lunch ioi> two. This is tho Avay sho did it : —
"Waiter! waiter! OJ4 you're here., are you? I didn't notice. Now, I've- brought my friend to show her any favourite, luncheon place, and 1 I want you to take particular p:un« to have everything nice. We want a steak for two — the best you 'hare. Be sure it's good, won't you? 1 have told her that there isn't another place in London where you could get a steak cooked so deliriously as you can here v and I shall be so disappointed if it doesn't ■come- up to our expectations. I want it cooked just right — not too well done — not raw in the middle, I mean, but not fried up either. Well, just about what you -would call perfect. "And lot me see. Oh, of course, -we want some potatoes. Fried — boiled — mashed. We have always mashed at home. My husband won't eat them any other way, and I get so tired of it. You may bring us boiled — no, they're so common — we'll take^ fr.i-ed.
"And — oh, yes, something to drink. You'll -have coffee. Well, I'll take a cup, too. They say hot milk is more nourishing, but never mind. I'jl take the coffee. Now, you will try and have everything just as pood as yon can, won't you, 'becauso "Why, he didn't wait for m-3 to finish! What impertinence."
The man said: — "Steak for two — fried potatoes — coffee."
