♦— — ! A REMARKABLE ESCAPE. A destructive fire occurred , Recently at a farmfioiise which adjoins the ■ railway sta,tion at Whaplode, near Scalding, England. '"' : 1 The cause of the outbreak: a spark from an engine falling on the tt jiatched roof. The inmates, six in number, p deluding two children, ,just managed to esca pe. having to rush . from the burning bui_j : ..*jng ' in their ' night-clothes. The body of pt maif named Ingammells was lying in- the bouse awaiting interment, and efforts weu§ made to res- ; cue the corpse, but this was' impossible. The village clergyman held "- funeral uevvice in a farmhouse opposite ; while the fire 1 was in progress, it being thoj ight that the > body could not escape the fi| noes. When-, 1 however, the fire was subdueil and search was made it was found that jtlte body was 1 unharmed, but the coffin much' Ikirned. A new coffin was made, anfjl the funeral ' subsequently took place.
