SOUTH AFRICAN STEAM SERVICE.
6IR JOSEPH WARD'S VIEWS. [•From Our Correspondent.] DUNEDIN, Jan. 15. | Sir Joseph Ward, in his linal statement j to the " Times" interviewer, said: — "We are quite prepared to ask the contractors j to vary the terms of their contract in order to help the ■export tiadte from any port of ] the colony, but if we asked a steamer to come here ior 150 tons of cargo they would naturally turn round and ask if the colony was going to pay for it. I think the real difficulty "is that we are right -between seasons, and there is not sufficient of either grain or meat for export to South Africa. When tho proposal came to allow the Devon to go to Queensland I was only too glad to accept it, for it gavo us an addi■tibnal market." PFrom Our Correspokdent.] WELLINGTON, Jan. 15. In respect to the report submitted by Mr Munro in answer to the " Otago Daily Times," it should be stated I , that the former was in charge of the Industries and Commerce Department during the absence of Mr Donne at Rotorua, otherwise, the report wmild have be?n furnished, by Mr Donne after roceiving the Minister's sanction for its publication.
