FIRE ON A TRAIN.
♦ • TOTAL DESTRUCTION OF A TRUCK [Per I'rkss Association.] PALMKR-STON NORTH, Jan. 15. Much consternation was caused to passengers by the tlain from Palm.er.ston to Dannevirke yesK'-rday morning, when about one mile and ai halt from Aslmrst a tnick containing about a ton of tow was discovered to be on fire. Uy the time the train was stopped and the 'truck detached the tow, was a mass of flames. A number of railway Ir.mtis were fcrtunatcly on the train, and theys ass:st-cd by the passengers and a party of settlers, after some hard work, succeeded ■in capsizing the track off the rails, and tho train proceeded. The tnick, which was a comnlete wreck, was, it is stated, valued at £180.
