THE POULTRY YARD.

FANCIERS' NOTES. (By 0V0.) Fanciers' excursions are now all the fashion, and during the past month I (writeß W. L. Rae, to the "Australasian") have visited several noted places im company with fello-w-membOT3 of various societies. Perhaps the most interesting was a visit to the Salvation Army's Colony Poultry Farm, where I saw 3000 birds kept under excellent conditions. It is situated at Hadleigh, in not fail to see thia interesting place. Apropos Mr Reilly's " twin chicks " is the following letter to "The Field" :—"I have during the present month been sfiown two healthy well-grown pullets, about four months old, which the owner asserts came out of the same egg. In this she is borne out by a neighbour, who states that he saw the beaks of the two chickens protruding through the eggshell just before tney had got fully out of it. Furthmnore, the owner, a woman, in humble circumstances, refuses to sell the chickens, as she considers them 'lucky,' which, if not convincing to others, tends $o show that she fully believes in the accuracy of her etcry. Kindly say in your next i«su« if any previous instances have been recorded, or is the matter considered a physiological impossibility?" The Editor of "The Field" appends tie following not* :— " The account ia probably perfectly accurate. We have more than once seen two well-formed ohickens in one egg, and have known three pigeons hatched from the two egga in a nest ; but, in consequence of the space to whioh they are confined by the shell, if two birds are present, one only is usually perfectly developed."
