[Per Pbess Association.] !• MASTERTON, Sept. 12. Strong complaints are being made with regard! to the dilatoriness of the Municipal Fire Brigade dim proceedinig to a burning! jhouse yesterday afternoon. The bell was not rung nor was the engine despatched to the scene for fully twenty minutes after) the fact of the fire having broken out was generally known in town. The cause is allegedl to be jealousy between, the local ■brigades. An official inquiry ihas been demanded by the public. . The "Wairarapa. Benevolent Society is still, moving in the matter of having am amendment introduced into the Destitute Persons Act, giving a Magistrate power to grant liens on wages paid to men who have deserted tiwir families and left them encumbrances on charitable institutions.
