Fifteen guineas per cent has been paid to reinsure the Pleione, bound from Sydney to London. i The Timaru, whose non-arrival at Ka.i-, J » para is causing anxiety, left Lyttelton in : ballast on the evening of Saturday, Augiust 16, under the command of Captain Johannesen. She is an iron barque ef-407 tons gross and 364 tons nftfc register. Her principal dimensions are— Length 131.7 ft, beam 30ft, depth of hold 14.4 ft. She is fifteen years old, having been built in 1887 at , Middleburg, Holland. Before she came into the possession of her present owners, Messrs A. H. Turnbull and Co., of Christchurch, she was known first as the Willem Christiaan, and afterwards as the (Don Diego. It is a strange coincidence that the Ronga, which is a new vessel and 'belongs to Mr T. H. Ker, of Christchurch, capsized in Pelorous Sound about a twelvemonth ago— on Sept. 16, 1901, through being struck by a sudden squall off Fairy Bay. She .was making for Havelock, and, in order to save time, her crew had begun to put out ballast before reaching her anchorage. The weather was calm, and the squall which struck her was unexpected. Her present master, Captain Peterson, was then in command.
