MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.
The weekly meeting of ..the Lyttelton Literary and' Debating Society ,was held in the Presbyterian Schoolroom last night. Mr J. R. Webb, one of the vice-presidents, was in the chair. The journal was read 1 by the editor Mr J. M'Gregor. It contained papers on "The Socialistic Ideal," "The Animal Man," and "The Misuse of our Greatest Comforts," one drawing attention to the necessity for more stringent enforcement of a sanitary by-law, andi two making suggestions for the conduct of t)he Society.
