PERSONAL.
Mr S. I. Fitch, of the Government Pomological staff, has returned to Christchurch from ti seven- days' visit to the southern part of the North Island. Mr Fitch has decided to resign his position, preferring to reside in Christchurch, and will* retire at the end of this month. Mr F. H. Wood, Mayor of Greytown, is in Christchurch on a visit. f Mr Henry Redwood, of Nelson, arrived in Christchurch this morning, and went out to Riccarton, where he will be the guest of Mr E. Gutts. , Mr and Mrs S. Saunders were among the passengers who went south by this morning's express train. The Hon G. Jones will leave fbr Wellington, by the Penguin, to-night. \ Mr W. W. Collins, M.H.R., will leave by tat same steamer. Cottonel* Hume is booked by the Penguin for Wellington to-night. The following passengers are. booked for Wellington by the Penguin, to-night : — ■ Misses A. Lissaman, M. Dickinson and; Moon, Messrs E. C. Spence, Jameson, Carman, Crawford, Laxelin-, C. A.
