"GREATER GISBORNE."
DISAPPOINTED PETITIONERS. [Pks Press Association.] GISBORi\E, May 31. At a meeting in connection with the " Greater Gieborne ", scheme a strong protest was entered against the ignoring by the Government of the petitions in favour of amalgamation and the following resolution was passed: — "That the Amalgamation Committee duly appointed by the three local bodies affected by the proposed amalgamation deplores the action of the Governmerit in not replying to its numerous communications upon the question, and ' also deplores and! condemns {the action of the Government in attempting to block the amalgamation petition in the manner indicated in the Colonial Secretary's letter to the Borough Council without aoting in a manner prescribed by law and refusing to set up a commission to inquire into the petitions for and against amalgamation."
