A SERIOUS BURGLARY.
— .-♦ ! ■ THE ROYAL GEORGE HOTEL ENTERED. { TWO MEN" ARRESTED. Shortly before midnight last night the police were informed that the Royal George Hotel, situated on the East Town. Belt, had been entered and a. quantity of jewellery stojen from the landlady's room. A ladder was found placed against the bathroom window, and it was evident that an entrance had been effected there. The landlady missed her jewerfefy at about 11 p.m., and it. was surmised that ther room was entered at about 6 p.m., while the household was at dinner. On receipt of the news the police at once sejj^o work, and at 8 a.m. to-day two men named) Thomas O'Connor and-George M*Kay, alias Watson, were arrested in Durham Street by Constables Qrrirke and 1 O'Connell. Most of the missing jewellery was found; in their possession. ,'■ . The two men were charged a* toe- Magistrate's Court this morning, before Messrs J. Hamilton and W. H. Cooper, J.P.s, with breaking and entering the Royal George Hotel and! stealing a gold watch valued at £7, ; « gold chaia valued) afc £2, a gold bangle valued at £8, four rings valued at W 10s, a pair of eye-glasses valued «b £1, and two brooches and a greenstone) pendant valued at £1, the property of Mrs Mole! Sub-Inspector Black said ifiat the accused had only just been arrested, and asked;' for a remand until Friday next. •' . ; ' The remand was granted, and an application: for bail was opposed by the Sub-In-spector, who stated that the accused were two of the most dangerous characters in town. At this point-, M'Kay said that he intended to plead guilty. Bail was granted, themselves in £100 eadb, and two sureties of £200 each. .
