In the Doncaster Champagne Stakes she could only get third place, behind Game Chick and Csardas. This season she was only defeated by a head in the Lincolnshire Handicap by St Malcou. Many English writers affirm that Sceptre was not judiciously ridden, or she might have reversed positions with St Maicou, Sceptre is engaged in. the Ona Thousand Ghrineas, May Three-year-old Plate, Derby Stakes, Oaks Stakes, Prince of Wales' s Stakes, Coronation Stakes, St James's Palace Stakes, Hardwicke Stakes, St Leger Stakes and Park Hill Stakes. This season the son of Carbine finished out of a place in the Chaplin Stakes, run at Lincoln on March 17. Ard Patrick, like Sceptre, only contested three races as a two-year-old, and several good English judges considered that he would develop into a clinking three-year-old. He won the valuable Imperial Produce Stakes, six furlongs, by a head from Royal Lancer, at the ' Kempton Park October Meeting, and followed this up by annexing the Clearwell Stakes, five furlongs and 140 yards, at the .Newmarket October Meeting. He was then beaten a head by Game ■Chick in the Dewhurst Plate, Beven. furlongs.)
