LOCAL NOTES.

Four additional horse* are expected to arrive in camp to-day from Orari/ To-moi-row six will arrive from, Culverdiem and fifteen from Fairlie. Seventy-fiv& horses will be sent from Wellington on Friday, arriving on Saturday, and the remainder of the North Island animals are expected to reach camp next week. The Oamaru and the remainder of the Timaru horses will be sent as early as possible. Biding drills will then be commenced. The West Christchurch and School swimming baths have been- placed at the disposal of the Contingent by the respective school committees. The generous offer is, gTeatly appreciated. Thirty more men are coming from the West Coast and Nelson to make up the full strength of the Contingent. About seventy-five members of returned contingents went ' cut to the Cashmere Range this morning for shooting practice, and shaped fairly well. The Honorary Reserve Corps has offered the Contingent the use of its range. The proprietors of the Cashmere Estate and Mr Hugoain have also very generously given every facility to th& Contingent, cutting paths for the firing parties through 'their crops, and otherwise assisting. A man came back to the camp after hours last night and used abusive language towards the guard when stopped. ■ He was sent out of the camp this morning. This is the first case of the kind in the present camp. The following was the parade state at this morning's paradte: — Camp staff, two captains, one lieutenant, one quarter-mas-ter, one "adjutant, two regimental sergeantmajors, one regimental quartermaster-ser-geanib, and two assistant regimental quar-termaster-sergeants; contingent, five officers, 187 Canteibury men, 200 Otago men, 70 Nelson and* West Coast men, two absent on leave, eight absent without leave^, making a total of 482. . Lieutenants M"Nab (Otago), Orbell (Otago), and Street (Oamaru) have come' into camp. Lieutenant Mackenzie is paymaster. Veterinary-Captain A. R. Young (has also reported! himself, but is at present on leave. The -horses at present in camp would benefit considerably by moie work. Aib present, high feeding and no exercise are not improving their condition. The military authorities have at present nothing to do with the animals. Several par-eels of books Shave been .received in camp for the use of the men.
