LARRIKINISM IN DUNEDIN.
+ PLAIN SPEAKING BY A MAGISTRATE. [Per Peess Association".] DUNEDIN, Jan. 6. Charles Peake and William A. Low were brought before Mr Graham, S.M., this morning, on a charge of attempting to rob. The cas* was dismissed, the Magistrate ruling that there was no evidence to support .'.the charge, '.'.but said' that .had itbeen brought as a' case of assault ho would have inflicted live severest penalty possible, being determined to put down larrikinism. He expressed a hope that the disgrace involved would act as a warning to the accused. >• [Prom Our Correspondent.]
The case in which tlie two young men Low and Peake were charged with sticking up persons on the night of Sunday week was dismissed, owing to the information being laid as an indictable offe-noe, and the evidence as to identity, etc., net being clear, but Mr Graham, S.M., who presided, made it plain that had the accused been charged with a breach of the peace he would have visited the offence with serious puni,shmpnt. Larrikinism, he said, must be suppressed.
