A FRESH .SENSATION. < ALLEGED TAMPERING WITH A WITNESS. ANOTHER ADJOURNMENT. A fresh sensation 'has developed in. connection ■with, the Ariadne case. At th© Magistrate's Count this morning, before Messrs J. Richardson, J.P., and; W. Samuels, J.P., a new charge was preferred against George Mumford 1 , late master of the yacht Ariadne, and one of the tfhreepersons implicated in the casting away of fehe yacht on the New Zealand coast, aird whose trial begins- on Jan. 20. Mumford is now charged "that on Jan. 4, at Ohristchuroh, h« did attempt to dissuade a person, to wit, Annie Downing, by a bribe or other corrupt means, from giving evidence in a certain criminal cause or matter, to wit, the prosecution of Thomas Caradoc Kerry, Eric Jolhn Hussey Freke and 1 George Mumford, on a charge- of having cast away the yacht Ariadne. Mr. Harper appeared for tie accused-, and applied fora, remand until the next day. Mr Stringer, far the Crown, raised no objeotions, and "the remand was accordingly granted. No application was ma-d'e for bail. Upon the application of Mr Cassidy, representing the accused, in the Ariadne case, a further adjournment of the case in the Supreme Court was granted until Jan. 20. The jury summoned for Jani 13 will not be required to attend 1 , and it understood that a fresh panel will be struck.
