The Otago and Southland section of the Eighth Contingent left for the Addington Camp by the" 10.20 express. One hundred and eighty men paraded at Tahuna Park Camp. There were two absentees from the InvercargiH section, whose places will ba filled up in Christchurch. Captain Jackson, formerly of ihe Fifth Contingent, and Lieutenant M'Millan, take charge of the troopers on their way to Christchurch, and they are accompanied by Dr Bauchop. Colonel Robin, made a short, spirited speech, in which, he impressed on the men. the absolute necessity for watchfulness on active service, and the need for implicitly trusting their officers, instead of indulging in what he termed committee business, and arguing about this, that and the other. An immense crowd gathered at the station, and gave hearty cheers, and especially for Captain Jackson. As the men had to be- entrained at once, to keep them to- ** gether, the Mayor got no chance to make a speech which he had prepared. The men at tie camp commenced drill » this morning, and shaped fairly well. They flare settling down as quickly as could be v^expected. Colonel Webb has received a telegram from Colonel Robin stating that Captain Jackson and Lieutenant M'Millan, with 200 men from Otago for the contingent-, left Dunedin by the 10.20 train thds> morning. They will arrive at Addington- at about 8.15 and march to the camp, where Mr, Burke has instructions to prepare a meal for them at 8.30 p.m. Visitors will Ibe admitted to the camp to-morrow between 2 and 6 p.m.
