A MESSAGE FROM LORD KITCHENER. 1 [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Jan. 4. Lord Kitchener, has cabled to the Premier as follow®:— I, together, with the officefs and men of the Army in South Africa, deeply appreciate the kindness and untiring assistance we receive from the G-overnnn>snt and people of New Zealand. We shall be delignted to welcome the Eighth Contingent, which, I feel sure, will add to the reputation of its predecessors. [From Our Correspondent.] DUNEDIN, Jan. 4. Three members of the Eighth Contingent belonging to- St Clair were each presented ■with » pipe and! a gold ring last night. The cost of tlie presents was defrayed by public subscription, to which the whole neighbourhood contributed. ; One returned trooper has (resigned because he was unable to get a commission, and another was dismissed for .insubor-dn'na-tion. , ,
