NEW PLYMOUTH CONTEST NOTES.
The two test selections for this contest have arrived, and are now in possession of Mr E. Dockrill, Mayor of New Plymouth. The liberal prizes — medals and special ones donated by the various music warehouses in New Zealand — are most attractive. A test march, specially written an-d arranged by Mr Charles Trussell, of Nelson, printed in the colonies, and one of exceptional virtues, will be used. The solo competitions are opsn to members of entering bands only, and aTe aa follow — E flat cornet, B flat comet, E flat horn, B flat baritone, euphonium, B flat slide trombone, G trombone, E' flat Bass, B flat bass. Also, trombone trio quartette competition for Ist B flat (or E flat) oornet, 2nd B flat cornet. E flat alto (or trombone), euphonium, baritone, or G trombone. Entries close for the test selection and quickstep competition on* Nov. '0, and for solos, trios and quartette, on Jan 26, 1902. Mr James C. Morey, the honorary secretary, has forwarded the diagram for the marching contest, and the details issued up to date show that the New Plymouth bandsmen are quite equal to carrying out the 1902 North Islamd contest successfully. Record entries are anticipated, nnd nil matters point to an unequalled gathering of baffi'dsmen.
