FLOODS ON THE COAST.
I» . . A ROUGH COACH JOURNEY. Heavy rains and floods are reported from the West Coast. Passengers who arrived by the train from Springfield this evening state that the floods have been specially heavy at Hokitika and in that vicinity. The passengers from Christchurch through the Otira had a rather rough time on Wednesday.. It was found that the Otira River was in flood, and they were sent over on tbe wire bridge. An attempt was made to take the xiorses across at the ford. This, however, was only partially successful, as two of Mr Cassidy's horses, getting i out of the ford, were carried away by the current and drowned.
