A gaJe and a fog delayed the arrival of the City of London Imperial volunteers at Southampton from the Cape, and their reception will be held on Monday. The streets were thronged to-day, and there was great disappointment at their non-arrival. GENERAL BARTON'S ENGAGEMENT. TKEACrJEROUS" BOERS. SHOT. r LONDON, Oct. 28. The capture of the cavalry at Philipolis was the result of an ambush. General Barton's Royal Sc6uts and Weli?h Fusiliers displayed distinguished gallantry at Frederickstadt. Thirteen were killed and twenty-eight were wounded. The enemy abandoned twenty-four dead and nineteen wounded, and twenty-six were captured. Three Boers who fired treacherously after they iheld up their hands were courtmartialled and shot.
