ELECTORAL.

The Hon W. Hall-Jones, Minister of Public Works, will address the electors of Timaru on Thursday. Asked why he did not contest the Timaru seat witli Mr Hall- Jones, instead of seeking a seat for a country constituency, Mr C. M. Macintosh replied that he supported Mr F. H. Smith at last election, and to enter the field against him now would only split votes and ensure ths return of Mr Hall-Jones. Mr W. W. Tanner addressed a meeting at Bromley on Friday evening, Mr Walker in the chair. A vote of thanks was accorded, on the motion of Mr M'Kenna, seconded by Mr Dryden. On Saturday evening a large meeting of Mr G. W. Russell's Central Committee was held, when delegates were present from nearly all districts of the Riccarton electorate. Favourable reports were received from every local district. Mr F. R. Flatman addressed a large audience in the Volunteer Hall, Geraldine, on Friday night. The chair was occupied by Mr J. W. Pye, .chairman of the Town Board. Mr Flatman spoke very strongly against the " Left- Winger." He also threw out a challenge to the Hon W. Rolleston to meet him on a public platform and prove that the Premier had interfered in any way with the Waste Lands Board, with Mr Thomson, chairman of that Board, or with the Stock Committee. Speaking on the education question, he promised that if he went back to the House he would maks an effort to induce the Government to raise the capitation from £3 15s to its old standard of £4. Mr Flatman was accorded a vote of thanks and confidence. , Mr C. A. C. Hardy addressed a meeting in the Orange Hall, Greendale, on Friday evening, and received a vote of thanks. Mr M. Donnelly, who was a defeated candidate at last general election, has again agreed to stand for Christchurch in the Conservative interest. • Mr G. Laurenson has postponed the address that was to have been given by him in the Addington Schooh-oom this evening, until Thursday. . A meeting of his friends and supporters wili be held in the Woolston Druids' Hall this evening.' Mr W. Jacques addressed a well-attended meeting of elector^, at the Public Hall, Governor's Bay, on Saturday night. Mr J. Allen occupied the chair. At the conclusion of his address, Mr Jacques was unanimously accorded a vote of thanks. On Friday evening Mr R. Moore addressed the electors at Woodend, and" on the motion of Mr J. B. Moody, seconded by Mr- T. M'Donald, was accorded a vote cf thanks and confidence. The first supplementary roll for the Kaiapoi electorate contains 336 names, making the total on the roll 4757.
