AUCKLAND, July 31. A Native woman named Wiki, living in the King Country, was recently charged, at Te Awamatu, before Mr Jackson, S.M., with selling rum to Nikora, a Native constable, at a Native store at a Maori settlement alt Paemako, between Tekuiti and Mokau. , Accused, who was ; undefended, pleaded guilty. Evidence was called to show that defendant had sold a glass of rum, also a bottle of rum, for 9s. A quantity of liquor was seized under warrant. Wiki was convicted and .fined £10, with costs £9. The Magistrate ordered the liquor taken by the police to be confiscated. Mr Cameron, of Wellington, has, it is understood, bought the Onehunga Ironworks from the Assets Board. It is the intention of the purchaser to remove the plant to Wellington for iron-rolling purposes. James Wellington,' the man. convicted o_ •stealing a number of books irom the free public library, was brought up for sentence to-day. The Probatftm Officer's report was favourable, and accused was admitted to probation for a term of one.month. ; > ... r.;*--.
