RICCARTON TRAINING NOTES. [From Orrn Comiespondent.] The work yesterday morn inf. was uninteresting, as the going was not fit for trainers to send their charges very fast. Worldid not commence until about 9.30, as thr •ground waa too hard, owing to the heavy frost last night. Aynsley's was the first team to 'commence. Golden Legend, Huku, General Wolfe and Mauser covered four circuits of the grass inside the schooling track at half-speed, increasing to three-quarter pace the last time round. Umslopogaas covered two rounds on the same track at a ,good striding pace, moving freely and well. Windermere and Shekel were out jumping over the hurdles, the pair; fencing- splendidly./ Venture and Pensioner, put in three.solid <r6*unds,.Bawai-'doing-a similar task by him-; .elf. Blackberry trotted 'and ' cantered' ; a -couple/; of . rou^sj^&ud /afterwiirdsV: m6ye<l: hic.eiy thr^Vstrphg circuits.'.- Wahoo, by herself, completed three, itrong rounds. 'Straybird arid- Torpin<_ did useful .Workjover; two circuits, 'white Social Pest, Female Franchise, Powder. Monkey, Barnardo, Rangefinder,. Kuku, Victor, Starshot, Benzoin, Bristol, Mcdallius, Hickory, Huntingdon, Master Sockburn, Vulcan, Boccacio, and a number of others were given medium to steady pacing. In the afternoon several of the horses which are engaged at the meeting were out working. Medicus and Fleetwood completed two steady circuits, when the latter, with H. Telford for a pilot, was jumped over the sod wall-and poet-and-rails and two flights of hurdles, fencing in fine style. Sequin, Skirmisher and a few others were worked lightly. SOUTH ISLAND TROTTING ASSOCIATION. The annual meeting of the South Island Trotting Association was held last evening ; presents-Messrs Selig (president), Harris, Messrs Clarkson, Chadwick, M'Lean, Derrett, Mulholland and the Secretary (Mr Rollitt). The statement of accounts showed :— Receipts (including balance from 1898, of £114 4s Id), £345 4s 7d ; expenditure, £194 8s 4d; leaving a credit balance at bank of £150 16s 3d; The total assets amounted to £178 2s lOd. The balance-sheet was adopted. Several members spoke highly of the services rendered to the Association by the Secretary, and it was unanimously resolved to grant him a bonus of £40. The Chairman congratulated .;' members on the position of the Association, and said that there could be no doubt that the past year had been very satisfactory, so far as the South Island was concerned, and that the efforts of the Association had been in the best interests of the sport. He mentioned the fact of the Lancaster Park Club having purchased a ground, as an evidence of. the healthy state of trotting. He concluded with an expression of the hope that the new Board would successfully carry on the good' work that had been. commenced. In speaking, to a vot. of thanks to Mr Selig, several members referred to the great services, rendered by him to the Association ais president. Mr Selig acknowledged .the compliment. A vote of thank, to the Treasurer concluded the business. • ' ■ The South Canterbury Hunt Club will hold their annual steeplechase meeting on Thursday, at Mr Brookland's Farm, Kingsdown.
