The Seamen's Union has appointed a deputation to urge the Minister of Marine tc prevent coal-laden steamers carrying decfe loads, and to request that greater vigilanw may be exercised in loading vessels at coa' ports. The Union Company has sent the Poherua to look for the wreckage reported to hay« been seen near Kaikoura, and the Rotomar ! hana will also go up from Lytterton, if pos^ | sible, for the same purpose.
