CANTERBURY RUGBY UNION.
The weekly meeting of fifie committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union was held yesterday evening, at the Clarendon Hotel; prcsent--Messrs A. E. G. Rhodes (chairr man), J. C. Adams, F. T. Evans, F. E. Asquith, G. Scott, H. Frost; J. R. Evans, E. M. Carr and W. G. Garrard (honorary secretary). Mr'T. Pike, referee in the Richmond-Kaiapoi Junior 'tlag match on Saturday last, reported a member of the Kaiapoi team, for rough play. It.-was decided to hold an inquiry into the case at tie next committee meeting, when the player would be called on to be present. It was decided that matches should be--' commenced at 2.45 p.m. during the month of June. On the motion of Mr Adams, seconded by Mr Frost, it was resolved to ask'ihe Lancaster Park Company to admit free to all matches those active members-of the Referees' Association who were off duty on any Saturday. Mr J. R. Ev^ins reported that Mr Mason and he had interviewed Inspector Broham with reference to obtaining the assistance of the police at Lancaster Park on Saturdays. The Inspector nad said that he had no men to spare, but had asked the committee to put its views in- writing. Itwas decided to write to the' three members of Parliament for Christchurchy. asking them to use their influence in the matter. Mr Scott drew attention to the necessity for making better arrangements for the admis- . sion. of the public to Lancaster Park, and the Secretary was instructed 'to write- to the Park Company on the subject. Tlie Treasurer reported that the Richmond -Club stiE owed the Union £2"5s "for fines ; incurred last season. He had' applied, unsuccessfully, for payment. If was deci'ded 'to call on the club to pay the amount wi'th!in fourteen days, .otherwise it would be : struck off the roll.
