T ew Zealand Rugby Union this- evening, the proposal to assist ; in forming an Australasian Union was lost "by twenty-one to six. It is believed that j some of the Unions voted against the proposal, fearing that its adoption would 1 mean disaffiliation with the English Union, \ but this is not intended. A motion that the I resolution to submit to the English Union jthe proposed alterations in the laws of the game should be rescinded was. carried by eighteen to 'seven. It was decided- to hold a special meeting to consider the alterations seriatim. Mr Marter- stated that the result of his interview with Mr Rand, Secretary of the NeAV South': Wales Union, with reference to the tour of the English team, and it was strongly urged' that every effort should be mavle to induce the Englishmen to visit New Zealand. It was decided to asfii-t-he Unions at thVfour centres'what they were prepared to guarantee for a match: played on their owfl: grounds. When replies have been received' an offer will be made to the New South Wales Union, and probably, also, direct to the English' team.
