INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION.
A special meeting of the General Committee of the Canterbury Industrial Association was held last evening; present — Messrs W. W. Charters (president), J. Waller, A. H. Hancock, G. Moon, J. Maddren, C. 8.. Cogan, P. Hepburn, R. W. England, R. Allian, W. Sey, G. R. Hart, T. N. Horsley and A. W. Beaven. The Chamber of Commerce wrote, asking the committee for an opinion regarding the working of the patent laws of the colony. Messrs G. T. Booth and A. W. Beaven were appointed a committee to deal with the matter. Mr R. Allan brought up the question of the Industrial HalU, and stated that all the proprietaiy shares in the company had now been taken up, and as the Agricultural and Pastoral Association had arranged for a systematic canvass by their members it was quite time that the Industrial Association made a further effort in getting off the preference shares. After considerable discussion it was resolved, on the motion of Mr Hart, seconded by Mr Horsley, that the Directors and the Canvassing Committee should be asked to call a pxiblic meeting, in order to lay all particulars before the citizens, in order to enlist their assistance. The General Committee, with Messrs P. Beverley, W. Bowen, D. H. Brown, E. C. Brown, G. Heywood, T. Kincaid, J. Mitchell, S. Hurst-Seager, E. W. Seager, G. J. Smith, M.H.R., F. W.Tregear, G. Tombs, J. M. Taylor, W. E. Sorrell and R. H. Wood, and Captains Marciel and Meikleham, were appointed a Canvassing Committee, to combine with the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association in the matter of disposing of shares in the proposed hall. .
