GORE RACING CLUB. ' [From Oca Correspondent. \ GORE, Jan. 25. The weather was showery for tho opening day of tlio Gore summer meeting. The starting machines were used for the first timo in Southland. Cherrystone Avon the Croydon Handicap in hollow style, paying £1 ss, and Pickofc made a runaway race of me District Selling Handicap, returning his supporters £3 19s. Tho Cup was won by v luad by Pitch, and Toss, after a desperate finish with Ilex, Proposal . two lengths off; time 2mi". 16scc, dividend £1 12s. Lobo ■went to tho front in the Hurdle Race from, the start, and won with the greatest ease ; "dividend £1 13s. The-othcr events resulted thus:— Two-mile Trot— Premier (£3 95). ; Flying Handicap— Cherrystone (£1 18s); Mile Trot— May (£3 6s).
[Pkr Peess Association-.] WELLINGTON, Jan. 25. At the Foxton races the President's Handicap was won by Surrey, Primula second and Ton. third. Dividend— £l7 11s.
The stewards of the Wellington Racing Club have endorsed the disqualifications for life of W. A. Donald, the jockey OhiUiain, "J. Williamson " (the owner), and thp marc Ethel, alias Virgil, alias Cupid, by the Mas-' terton Racing Club. They declined to acquiesce in the proposal that the costs of the inquiry should be deducted from the stakes awarded the second horse (Te Taiaha).
