At tlie Police Ocmrt to-day, Joseph Braithwaite wm charged, under the Offiu;sive Publications Act, 1892, with selling printed matter, ta wit, the " Melbmirne J Weekly Budget," of an indecent nature. Mr GrahaiM-,-S.M., dismissed the information, ' being satisfied that the defendant was not ■ guilty of the knowledge that the advertisement complained of appeared in the news- ; paper, but he expressed the opinion that the : detectives should have first warned tb'j dofendarrf of the risk- he ran.. BJe i was urmly of opinion that this was the very class of i advertisement which the Act was- designed j „ 1 put down.
