ENTERTAINMENTS.
♦ — ' r he Cher^ey school treat, which has been held annually now in the school grounds for nearly twenty years, tqok place on Thursday, and was a. great success. Mr G. Scarlett (chairman) and his fellow-committee-men worked hard and successfully for the j enjoyment of all. From about £15, raised l>v subscription, each child got a book and a toy or useful ornament. After the children, under the direction of Mr and Miss Todd, had sung some of their school songs, \J .r Scarlett gave a short address. Some \iseful special prizes were distributed to the girls for sewing. Plenty of games filled in a most enjoyable day. There was a large attendance of parents and friends. Great interest centred in the annual tug-of-war>be-tween the married and single men, which was Avon by the latter. In the evening a bail, interspersed with songs, was held in the schoolroom, Mr Fred. Ironside acting as M.C. and Mr Syme supplying the music.
