SWIMMING.
THE SYDENHAM AMATEUR CLUB. A committee meeting of the Sydenham Amateur Swimming Club was held on Thursday evening ; present — Messrs C. Kent (chairman), Howison, Woodward, R. Pearson, H. Denham, Sherwood, Cameron, Sibbald and Russell. Correspondence was received from, the Borough Council, the School Committee and' Mr J. A. Caygill. Mr W. E. Munday wrote, accepting ithe position of vice-president, and enclosing a cheque for £1 Is. Accounts amounting to £2 11s 6d were passed, and the delegates' reports were accepted. For the Gala ; Day 200 yds Relay Race,, the following were selected to train: — Messrs Russell, Cameron, Sherwood, ;Bmnsden, Oliiver and Day. The following" were picked to practice for the polo match: — Messrs Cameron (captain), Russell, Sherwood, C. Kent. A. Kent, Day. Brunsden, Oliiver, F. C. Hall, Midgley, Hamilton, J. Sibbald, F. C. Cooper, Schneider, A. Smith and D. Carey. It was decided to hold the next monthly race on Dec. 22, distance 75yds, entries to close on Dec. 18. One new member was elected. The Secretary was instructed to write to the Borough Council, asking it to clean the well and to clean out the bath. After transacting some minor business the meeting terminated. The Sydenham Amateur Swimming Club held ithe first of the series of monthly races, 50yds, on Thursiav. First heat : H. Squires, 15sec, 1 ; H. Walkeiv lOsec, 2. A. M. Russell also started. Time — 46sec. A very close finish. Second heat: P. W. Oliiver, Bsec, 1 ; C. Schneider, 13sec, 2. J. Howison 16sec also started. Time — 40sec. Olliver swam a great race, and just won on the touch. Third heat : H. Sherwood, 3sec, 1 ; E. Day, 6&ec, 2;W. C. Woodward, 3. Time 36sec.* A close finish. The placed men swam--, almost a dead heat. Fourth heat: D.Carey,' 14sec, 1 ; P. C. Hall, 6sec, 2 ; J. Sibbald, 6sec, 3. . Time— 4ssec. Carey had the best of it from the start. Final: D. Carey, 14 sec, 1; P. W. Olliver, Bsee. 2; H. Squires, 15sec, 3. Sherwood also started, 'lime — 46-ec. This 'proved another good race, the judges, Messrs Howison and Denham,.having some trouble in placing the competitors. Mr C. Kent was liandicapper.
