Beetham, district coroner, presided, and Air M'Cutcheon was chosen foreman of ' the jury. Samuel Yogel said that on the night of Nov. 23 he, in company with Halligan, was collecting nightsoil from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. They collected three loads that night. For the second lead they commenced at the corner of Salisbury and Durham Streets, and wenfc round the block by way of Montreal Street, Conference Street, and back to where they started along Durham Street, and then along Salisbury Street to Colombo Street. Samuel Halligan gave corroborative evidence, as also' did William Robinson, the driver of the night-cart, and Constable Cassells. . , Mr Beetham said that, in view of the fact that the child had never, breathed, it was not much use going on further, - A verdict w« returned that the child was btill-bora, and .there was nrv evidence to show hew it "came into the night-cart. The body was recovered and removed to the Studholme Junction Hotel, where an inquest will be held. The deceased, who could not swim, got into about twelve feet of water, in which a quantity of debris from flax-mills is usually thrown. His parents reside at Rangiora.
