FATAL BICYCLE ACCIDENT.
A young fellow named John Bruce, eighteen years of age, met with a bicycle accident at Ashburton yesterday evening, which terminated fatally at 2.30 this morning. He bad just started in a road race in connection with the Ariel Club, and was romg at a strong pans, before a heavy north-west wind, when'-a, piece of glass got into the chain gear and upset the machine, giving him a severe fall. When picked up it was found that his skull, was crushed in by the impact. He was conveyed home, and all that was possible I was done for him, but he expired as stated above. The deceased had been m the employ of Messrs Friendlander Bros, since ,ie left school, ond was a very promising lad, and was universally respected. An inquest will be held to-day.
