BOROUGH COUNCIL.

LYTTELTON. The fortnightly meeting of the Lyttelton Borough Council was held on Monday evening; present — the Mayor, and Councillors Hobden, Field, Cook, Owen, Brown, Eadcliffe and Dalley. Correspondence waff read— From Miss Carr, applying for the use of a room for a short-hand school. The Council had no suitable room available. Messrs Hollis and Brown wrote relative to an untended building in Oxford Street, and the matter was referred to the By-law Committee, -wilh power to act. A number of ratepayers residing on Voelas Road wrote asking for a footpath to be made. Referred to the Works Committee, with power to act. Dr Guthrie wrote, urging the undesirableness of the confidential repoi-t relative to infectious diseases being made public. It was pointed out that it was quite impossible for the contents of the report to be kept secret, and the matter dropped. Councillor Radcliffe read the report of the Colonists' Hall Committee, which showed that a great improvement had taken place in the management of the institution since the present librarian had been in charge. It was resolved that the large room of the hall be newly floored. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the Mayor for his present of books to the Colonists Hall Library. The Finance Committee reported that the overdraft now stood at .£955 3s 4d ; receipts since last meeting £156 17s sd, and accounts for payment .£217 5s lid. The Foreman of ««"*» report showed that the drain in Little Brenchley Road had been finished, and that several minor drainage works were m hand Carried. The report of the Inspector of Nuisances was read and adopted. Leave of absence was granted to Councilor Lewin. A fortnight longer was granted to the Lighting Committee to report.
