[Per PrkßS Association.! INVERCAROiLL,.MA^CH 29. The Police Commission opened its sittings to-day, ; but the evidence; was not of an important nature. Mr'AJ C.Henderson, solicitor, stated that the police had used their influence with prisoners to prevent his engagement as counsel, and called a witness, who had been locked up for assault, in support. Constable Walker, of Riverton, deposed that religious and political influences, were at work in promotion. Three men who were his juniors had been promoted to third-class sergeants; they were all Roman Catholics. Both in Otago and Southland the principal rural and suburban stations were monopolised by Catholics. . . . :
