KERGUELEN ISLAND.

The Norwegian brig Edward has returned to Melbourne after a sailing cruise to Kerguelen Island. Although no fur seals were observed, sea elephants and sea leopards were found in large numbers. The party occasionally varied their sport by shooting ducks and rabbits, of which there is a plentiful supply. Some of the sea elephants were of immense size, one being fourteen feet in length. The skin and cranium of this monster have been brought back by the party. During nearly the whole time the vessel was at the Island the weather proved exceedingly fine. The financial result of the trip is not particularly encouraging, as the value of the "take," comprising 19,000 gallons of blubber aud 900 skins, is barely expected to cover the cost of hiring and outfitting the vessel, which is estimated at -.1500.
